What are the real and potential negatives of internet technology in political campaigns?

-What are the real and potential negatives of Internet technology in political campaigns?

I believe one of the major cons of Internet technology in political campaigns has been how the Internet magnifies what mainstream media promotes. For example, all the polling that is done so early in presidential campaign races can really hurt candidates that are running. When these poll results are shown by mainstream media such as TV, Newspapers, Radios, and then magnified on the Internet, it really hurts candidates such as Hillary Clinton and others who are not showing strong in poll results. Nobody wants to be on the losing end of a race, and the public starts to lose faith in their candidates when the Internet and mainstream media are portraying that their favorite candidate has no chance. It is already too bad that poll results, (which are usually a bad gauge of candidate popularity and performance anyways), have such an impact on voters decisions, and I believe the Internet has the ability to magnify this downside.
